The creek

The creek bed in Imaginature was constructed by the gardening committee in 2016. Nicknamed ‘Bobtail Creek’ because of its shape, it is designed to provide students with opportunities to:

  • play with water
  • create dams along the creek
  • play with wet sand and mud in the digging pit at the end of the creek.

Water is provided by a drinking fountain with an automatic shut-off valve at the top of the creek.  This reduces water use and encourages team work as the kids need to work together to get enough water to dam the creek and create wet sand or mud.

Four paperbark trees (two different species of melaleuca) were planted next to the creek, mimicking a natural creek line and allowing the trees to use some of the water from the creek.

Salvaged materials used:

  • the rocks for the creek bed were free from Gumtree
  • the ‘bridge’ was constructed from sleepers donated by a BPS parent
  • the drinking fountain was constructed by BPS parent Mike Ellis, with the second hand dribbler purchased from Gumtree.
